How to keep your Dallas home comfortable this winter

Heating

The dipping temperatures in Dallas aren’t heading anywhere, and while it’s not hard to fantasize about the warmer temps, it’s critical to remember that you can stay just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a huge role in this, which is why it’s so crucial to keep up with annual furnace service.

We do have to note that there are only a couple things that will offer as much to your comfort this season as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service is recommended be done annually. After all, who wants to spend a long winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them covered the whole time?

Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a few other things you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — a lot of energy companies will offer an energy audit for your home so you can identify areas that need fixed. You might be surprised what areas are letting hot or cold air to get out.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of the door’s location, doors allow the opportunity for a lot of cold air to get in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you can still have air making its way indoors. Check to see if your weatherstripping is in-tact or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be letting cold air inside. If you find any issues, weatherstripping is basic to replace and may take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common areas for air leaks may be your recessed lighting. Depending on how old your lights are, they may be letting all the hot air in your home get out through your ceiling. Fixing this is as basic as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These handful tips are just a place to start, but do recognize that there are other basic fixes you can complete once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy projects to do on the weekend.
