Why Does Your Furnace Smell When You Turn It On? 11/01/2016The weather is getting colder in Dallas and we will need to turn our furnaces on soon. This fall period we get many of furnace repair calls from homeowners declaring that they smell something when they turn their furnace on for the first time. Most likely you haven’t been operating your furnace since it was last cold. In that time dust may have accumulated inside your system. The first time you activate your furnace, that dust will incinerate. The smell from this will travel through your ducts throughout your house. This doesn’t usually pose any sort of danger and the smell will usually diminish after a little bit. However, if the scent does not go away after a while, please call in one of our experts. Another reason you could be smelling an odor from your furnace is that your air filter may have become obstructed. This can cause your blower motor to run harder than necessary and could cause the motor, and/or the furnace to overheat. Your furnace is going to be an important part of your life this winter season. If you haven’t yet scheduled your regular furnace repair, now is the perfect time. Our experts will be sure your system is operating securely and clean the internal components before you have to worry about a burning scent.
